Mineral Potential Project

چکیده
The Mineral Potential project was initiated in 1992 to meet the need for cnrrent regional mineral potential information in regional and sub-regional land-use planning. These planning processes have the responsibility of making recommendations on protected areas, as described in the provincial Protected Areas Strategy (PAS). The goal of PAS, created in 1992, is to protect representative examples of the province’s natural, recreational and cultural heritage features. A provincial target of 12% protection has been established; when PAS was announced, 6% of BC was considered protected. Mineral exploration and mining are not allowed in protected areas, hence decisions on which areas to protect need to fully account for mineral values. Part of the mandate of the Commission on Resources and Environment (CORE) is to run regional land-use planning processes and to make recommendations to government on their findings. Initially, three regions, Vancouver Island, Cariboo-Chilcotin and the Kootenays, were selected for evaluation and land-use planning (Figure I). Recommending protected areas is one of the more controversial issues in the CORE process. To provide readily useable mineral resource information to this process, the land within each region was ranked withrespecttoits mineralpotentialusingquantitativeanalysis. The CORE process necessitated the upgrading of all resource and cultural inventories in the province to facilitate informed land-use planning. This project is one of more than

Impact of copper mines and smelter on groundwater quality (Case Study: Rajasthan State in India)
Rajasthan is one of the main mineral potential state of India. During the last 30 years it has witnessed enormous expansion of mining industries, but mining of most of the minor minerals coupled with changing climate has posed serious problems to the environmental fabric in the state, apart from base metal beneficiation plants. Groundwater is also being polluted day-by-day by effluents generate...

متن کاملThe B.c. Mineral Potential Project - New Level 2 Mineral Resource Assessment Methodology and Results
In August 2002, the Geological Survey Branch (GSB) of the Ministry of Energy and Mines was asked by the Ministry of Sustainable Resource Management to undertake a Level 2 Mineral Resource Assessment (MRA) of the Coast Information Team’s (CIT) project area which encompasses approximately 11 million hectares. This was followed by a similar request in February 2003 to do the Lillooet Land Resource...
متن کاملMineral Resource Estimation: an Evaluation of Responses’ from Northeast British Columbia
The Mineral Potential Project is an initiative that provides predictions of resource abundance in the province and has been described by Kilby (1995). Ian this project, resource assessment is carried out on specified tracts of land, referred to as mineral assessment tracts. These tracts are generalizations of contiguous geological tracts that share a common tectonic history and metallogeny and ...
متن کاملGis, Modern Mineral Potential Modelling and Quantitative Resource Assessment: Implications for the Geological Survey of Queensland
The Geological Survey Office (GSO) undertook a pilot study with the objective of assessing the ability of Survey data to support modern quantitative mineral potential modelling techniques. The Yarrol pilot project was designed to audit digital data sets routinely produced by the GSO, and to provide mineral assessment outputs relevant to both industry and Government decision-making processes. Th...
